JACKSON, Miss. – Edgewood University baseball kicked off their 2026 campaign down south Friday. They opened up a three-game series against the Millsaps Majors. The Eagles (0-1) struck first, but the Majors (2-2) pulled ahead late with a barrage of home runs to claim a 5-4 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University made Millsaps pay for errors early.
Carter Kelley singled to left field to bring in a pair of unearned runs in the second, while
Aidan Kammer sent an RBI double to right field to add on another in the third.
- The two squads exchanged scoreless innings in the middle of the game, though the Eagles were unable to capitalize on a runner on second with no outs in the fourth and a runner on third with one out in the fifth.
- While Edgewood University came back to life with a solo shot to left center from
Kyle Prindle in the seventh, the Majors rallied in a big way. A two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the seventh put them on the board. They would pull ahead in the eighth, a solo shot to right field and another two-run home run, this time to left center, gave them a 5-4 lead after eight innings.
- Carter Guillory shut down Edgewood University with three strikeouts in a row to close out the game with a well-earned victory. He struck out five Eagles in two innings, while Millsaps fanned 12 in total.
-
Aiden Shumaker performed well in the defeat, tossing 6.1 innings with seven strikeouts and two earned runs.
-
Jacob Carney hit 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base.
Dominic Lee added on a double.
- Wes Carr was the star of the game for the Majors. He hit 2-for-4 with two two-run home runs for four RBIs on the day.
