RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood University women's basketball dropped a 60-59 heartbreaker at Concordia University Chicago on Wednesday evening. In a contest that only saw two lead changes and three tie scores, the Cougars held on for the victory in the final 30 seconds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- At the end of three quarters, Concordia University Chicago () led Edgewood University () 39-38. Taylor Wollin gave the Eagles a two-point lead (41-39) with a big three-point make to open the fourth quarter. The Eagles led until the final 10 seconds on Wednesday evening, when a layup from Sophia Pedraza tied the contest at 58 points apiece. Wollin responded with a made free throw at the eight second mark to give the Eagles a one-point lead (59-58). The Cougars got the ball back and solidified the victory via a layup from Pedraza with two seconds remaining on the clock.
- Edgewood University trailed the Cougars through the first three quarters. The Cougars outscored the Eagles 14-11 in the first quarter and held the Eagles to just 13 points in the second quarter. The Eagles came out of the locker room in the third quarter, shooting a game-high 42.86 percent (6-for-14) from the floor and holding the Cougars to just nine points.
- On the evening, Edgewood University out rebounded Concordia Chicago 44 to 29. The Eagles saw 15 rebounds come on the offensive side of the ball, including four from Sophia Guerrero.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Lindsey scored a team-high 15 points on Wednesday. Lindsey added six rebounds and two assists.
- Wollin pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds, scored nine points and dished out seven assists.
- Ava Berg posted nine points and pulled down seven rebounds.
THE OPPOSITION
- Three Cougars finished in double-digit scoring on Wednesday. Grace King led the way with 18 points. King added nine rebounds and five steals.
- Ai Yonemura posted 15 points, while Naveya Jackson scored 14 points for the Cougars.
