ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Edgewood University women's basketball team opened 2026 with a conference victory over Rockford. The Eagles defeated the Regents 66-49 to remain undefeated in conference play. Ella Hamacher and Taylor Wollin scored in double-digits to lead the Eagles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University (6-6, 5-0 NACC) got off to a quick start in Saturday afternoon, outscoring Rockford University (0-12, 1-4 NACC) 20-8 in the opening 10 minutes. The Regents took an early 4-2 lead through the first three minutes, before the Eagles closed out the quarter on an 18-4 run.
- The Eagles best first half shooting in the second quarter, as they went 6-for-14 from the floor (42.86 percent). Edgewood University scored 14 points in the second quarter and took a 34-19 advantage into halftime.
- The Regents shot an impressive 53.86 percent (7-for-13) in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles 21-14 out of the break. At the end of the third quarter, the Regents scored five-straight points to reduce the Eagles lead to just eight points (48-40) going into the final 10 minutes.
- Edgewood University wasn't satisfied with a single-digit advantage, shooting 57.14 percent (8-for-14) from the floor in the final quarter. Grace Vesperman got things going in the final quarter for the Eagles, with a jumper to reach the 50-point mark. Taylor Wollin posted five points, including a three-point make at the 8:06 mark to give the Eagles a 55-42 lead.
- The Eagles posted 42.6 percent shooting from the floor, their second highest mark of the season.
- The Eagles recorded 12 steals, which is tied for their best mark of the season.
- Edgewood University saw 36 points come from the bench.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Ella Hamacher posted 17 points, shooting 7-for-11 from the floor on Saturday. The freshman added six rebounds and dished out two assists.
- Taylor Wollin added 12 points and six rebounds in conference play.
- Grace Vesperman and Ava Berg both recorded four steals on the afternoon.
THE OPPOSITION
- Katie Paredes led the Regents with a 16 point, 10 rebound double-double. Paredes added five assists and four steals.
- Te Simpson posted 13 points and pulled down six rebounds.
