MADISON, Wis. – In a close conference battle, a strong shooting effort and consistent defense in the third and fourth quarters gave Edgewood University their seventh conference victory. The Eagles defeated MSOE 68-56, handing the Raiders their first conference loss of the season. Three Eagles scored in double-digits on Wednesday, led by Kate Gunderson.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Heading into the final 10 minutes on Wednesday afternoon, Edgewood University (8-7, 7-1 NACC) led MSOE (10-3, 7-1 NACC) by just three points (48-45). A trio of three-point makes from the Eagles was key in breaking past the Raiders. Gunderson opened scoring in the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to give the Eagles a six-point lead (51-45). Ava Berg put things out of reach for the Raiders with a pair of three-pointers. Berg's second make from long distance range in the quarter came with just 3:53 on the clock and gave the Eagles a 10-point lead (61-51).
- Edgewood University opened Wednesday's conference contest with a 10-4 advantage through the first five minutes. The Eagles didn't waste any time, but the Raiders quickly responded. Following the first media timeout of the evening, the Raiders scored seven-straight points to take an 11-10 advantage. After the first 10 minutes, the Eagles narrowly led 15-14.
- The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team leading by more than four points at any point. Gunderson posted a pair of three-throw makes in the final seconds to tie the contest at 26 points apiece going into halftime.
- Edgewood University started to prove their dominance in the third quarter, shooting a game-best 57.1 percent (8-for-14) from the floor and holding MSOE to just 23.1 percent (3-for-13) shooting.
- Despite 10 lead changes and six tie scores on Wednesday, the Eagles led for 34 minutes.
- The Eagles posted their second-straight contest shooting over 40 percent from the floor. A 43.1 percent (22-for-51) lifted the Eagles to victory, as they held MSOE to just 29.8 percent (17-for-57) from the floor.
- Edgewood University led the rebounding game on Wednesday, posting 39 rebounds, while MSOE added 31 rebounds.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Gunderson continued to be a consistent force for the Eagles, scoring 20 points and pulling down six rebounds. The senior went 6-for-12 from the floor and 7-for-8 from the charity stripe on Wednesday.
- Laci Lindsey did a bit of everything for the Eagles, scoring 14 points, pulling down six rebounds, recording two steals and adding two blocks.
- Grace Vesperman scored 11 points, dished out four assists and added two steals.
- Taylor Wollin posted a game-high nine rebounds and five steals.
THE OPPOSITION
- Three Raiders scored in double-digits on Wednesday. Halena Hill led MSOE with 14 points. Dani Mendez and Shelby Glodowski each added 11 points.
- Glodowski led the Raiders in rebounds, pulling down eight. Glodowski also added four steals and two blocks in the conference contest.
- Lana Kerley dished out a team-best four assists.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood University leads MSOE 54-14 in the all-time series.
- Gunderson led the Eagles with a career-best 20 points on Wednesday.
