CHICAGO, Ill. – A full team effort gave Edgewood University their third-straight win and eighth conference victory at Illinois Tech on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles defeated the Scarlet Hawks 72-41 on the road. All 12 Eagles who competed on Saturday scored a point in the team victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University (9-7, 8-1 NACC) posted a 10-0 run early in the first quarter, sparked by a three-point make from Kate Gunderson. The Eagles shot an impressive 42.9 percent (6-for-14) from the floor in the opening quarter and limited Illinois Tech (2-13, 2-7 NACC) to just 10 points. The Eagles led 18-10 after the first 10 minutes.
- The Eagles continued to roll in the second quarter, shooting a game-best 46.7 percent (7-for-15) from the floor and totaling 17 points. The Scarlet Hawks shot 44.4 percent (4-for-9) from the floor, but the Eagles did well to limit their opportunities and held Illinois Tech to nine points in the quarter. Thanks to eight points from Laci Lindsey, the Eagles took a 35-19 advantage into halftime.
- Six different Eagles scored in the third quarter, led by 5 points from Taylor Wollin. Edgewood University continued to build their lead, outscoring the Scarlet Hawks 18-13 in the quarter and taking a 21 point (53-32) lead into the final quarter.
- Payton Grenzer was a highlight for the Eagles in the final quarter, tying a career-best seven points through just six minutes on the court. Six different Eagles contributed to scoring in the quarter. The Eagles defense held Illinois Tech to just 14.3 percent (2-for-14) shooting from the floor in the final quarter.
- Edgewood University dominated rebounding on Saturday, totaled 45 rebounds, 19 coming on the offensive end of the floor. Illinois Tech, in contrast, pulled down 21 rebounds.
- The Eagles dished out 19 assists on Saturday. 10 of the Eagles 12 players contributed to the assist total.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Lindsey posted a team-high 12 points, going 4-for-9 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Lindsey pulled down a team-best nine rebounds.
- Kate Gunderson added 11 points, dished out five assists, and pulled down four rebounds.
- Ella Hamacher joined Lindsey and Gunderson in double-digit scoring with 10 points.
- Payton Grenzer tied her career-best with seven points in just eight minutes on Saturday. The sophomore added five rebounds.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood University is now 10-0 all-time versus Illinois Tech.
- Edgewood University sits in second place in the NACC with an 8-1 conference record. St. Norbert College leads the NACC with a perfect 9-0 mark.
THE OPPOSITION
- Abigail Marino led the Scarlet Hawks with 13 points, going 5-for-9 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.
- Lea Petitjean totaled 10 points.
- Berit Rusing pulled down a team-best five rebounds.
