MONTGOMERY, Ill. – After a series of weather delays, the Edgewood University men's soccer team shutout Aurora University 3-0 in conference play. The Eagles attack never gave up on Saturday evening, consistently pushing the Spartans defense. The Eagles remain undefeated in conference play on the back of goals from three different players on Saturday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Edgewood University (4-1-2, 2-0-0 NACC) attack was consistent and patient on Saturday, taking 17 shots and putting 10 on goal. The Eagles didn't let the weather delays slow them down, putting their first goal on the board in the 11th minute. Brandon Kaup converted a scramble in the box for his third goal of the season. Kaup's goal assisted by Connor Gage.
- The Eagles took a 1-0 advantage into halftime. Aurora University (2-3-2, 1-1-0 NACC) looked like they could still get back into the contest, taking six shots in the first 45 minute. Luckily for the Eagles, Maverick Van Laanen recorded two saves in the first half.
- Ryan Hardy netted his first goal as an Eagle in the 63rd minute. Hardy's goal assisted by Riley Kann to give Edgewood University a confident 2-0 lead.
- With under 10 minutes remaining, Jack Knight put the contest out of reach for the Spartans, converting a corner kick from Conor Bruce for the 3-0 lead.
- The Eagles defense only allowed the Spartans to take four shots in the second half.
- Van Laanen finished the contest with five saves, three coming in the second half of action.
- On the evening, the Eagles outshot the Spartans 17-10.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles shutout victory on Saturday is only the third shutout in program history against Aurora. The last shutout win was a 1-0 win in 2012.
- For the second-consecutive season the Eagles open their NACC campaign with a 2-0-0 record.
