VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood University women's soccer team saw their offense come alive in a physical battle with UW-Stout on Wednesday evening. The Eagles defeated the Blue Devils 3-2 in non-conference play. Greta Blau, Rylee Brotz, and Lacey Fabry all scored for the Eagles on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Greta Blau got the scoring going early for Edgewood University (3-1-1), netting the first goal of the evening just 10 minutes into the first half.
- UW-Stout (2-2-1) evened the score via a goal in the 31st minute. The Eagles and Blue Devils went into halftime netted up at one goal apiece. UW-Stout led the Eagles 13-7 in shots after the first 45 minutes of action.
- The Eagles weren't satisfied with a tie, as a header from Rylee Brotz gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead just three minutes into the second half. Kamy Luecke assisted on the Eagles second goal of the evening.
- Lacey Fabry gave Edgewood University a two-goal advantage in the 77th minute when she scored her first collegiate goal.
- Melanie Wallisch of UW-Stout scored in the final minute for the Blue Devils.
- In the end, the Eagles and Blue Devils finished even in shots, at 20 apiece.
- Emma Swenson and Madeline Brown split time in net for the Eagles. Swenson recording two saves in the first half, while Brown posted four saves in the final 45 minutes. Their counterpart, Kaitlyn Krengel recorded four saves for UW-Stout.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Wednesday's meeting between the Eagles and Blue Devils is just the sixth all-time meeting. The last time the two teams met was back in 2002.
