Eagles sweep Blue Devils, fall to Rams in Iowa

MOUNT VERNON, IOWA – Women's Tennis kicked off their 2025-26 campaign Saturday down in Iowa. They faced off with the UW-Stout Devils and the Cornell Rams. The Eagles (1-1) started off strong with a 7-0 sweep of the Blue Devils (0-1). The Rams (2-0) put together an impressive showing in the second match, winning 7-0 over Edgewood University.
 
MATCH ONE: EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 7, UW-STOUT 0
- The tandems of Hattie Plenty/Sophia Perret and Lauryn Krober/Kaitlyn Narkis clinched the doubles point for the Eagles with identical 6-3 margins in second and third doubles respectively.
 
- Evelyn Taylor and Christina Ekkela battled in a 7-5 win in top billing
 
- Plenty rallied in no. 1 singles for a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) victory. Kaitlyn Narkis followed up with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
 
- Ekkela put together a 7-5, 6-4 performance in no. 3 singles. Perret added on to her strong doubles showing in a 6-1, 6-3 win in the fourth slot.
 
- Lauryn Krober and Balyee Knott put a bow on the sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in no. 5 singles and a 6-1, 6-3 victory in no. 6 singles respectively.
   
MATCH TWO: CORNELL 7, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 0
- The Rams clinched the doubles point with identical 6-3 victories in no. 1 and no. 2 doubles versus Plenty/Taylor and Krober/Perret respectively.
 
- Ekkela and Narkis shined in a hard-fought doubles bout in the third slot, winning 7-5.
 
- Plenty conceded a 6-1, 6-3 result in no. 2 singles, while Perret fell 6-0, 6-1 in the third slot.
 
- Cornell continued to roll with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Narkis in fourth billing and a 6-0, 6-2 final versus Ekkela in the fifth slot.
 
- Krober conceded a 6-3, 6-2 result in the sixth slot. Taylor battled valiantly in the top slot, (?????)
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood University has won both meetings against UW-Stout by 7-0 margins in program history.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles will wrap up their stay in Iowa tomorrow. They'll take on the Buena Vista Beavers in Mount Vernon, Iowa with first serve scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
