UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Edgewood University men's soccer team began the 2025 in the winner's column with a 1-0 victory over John Carroll University on Friday evening. Newcomer Gabe Voung scored the only goal of the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With 43:30 on the clock, Gabe Voung scored his first goal as an Eagle. Voung's header found the back of the net assisted by Liam Moreira and Anthony Campos.
- Edgewood University (1-0), was dominant on the attacking end in the first half, taking five shots compared to just one from John Carroll University (0-1).
- The Eagles and Blue Streaks battled back and forth in the second half of action on Friday night. John Carroll managing two shots, but none were on goal. The Eagles took three shots through the final 45 minutes, putting two on net.
- Cristian Torres-Gale led the Eagles with three shots on Friday.
- Maverick Van Laanen took home the victory in net for the Eagles, making just one save in the shutout win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles opened their season with a win for the first time under head coach Tim Bruner and since 2018. Back on August 31, 2018, the Eagles defeated Olivet College 1-0 in their season opener.
- Friday's contest was the first meeting between the Eagles and Blue Streaks in program history.
