GLENDALE, Wis. – Baseball returned to the NACC Tournament Wednesday as they played in an elimination game. They battled with the Rockford Regents for the right to survive and advance. The Eagles (20-20) rallied late to force extras, before a
Ryan Ambrosy walk-off single clinched a 9-8 (12 inning) victory against the Regents (24-17).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rockford opened the scoring with a two-run homer to left field to kick things off in the first.
Dominic Lee grounded in a run in the second to put Edgewood College on the board.
- The Regents would extend their lead by one in the fourth. While the Eagles would tack on a run in the bottom of the frame, a double down the left field line and a single up the middle left Rockford ahead 4-2.
-
Hayden Hellenbrand would cut the deficit to one with an RBI grounder to shortstop in the fifth, but three runs in the sixth, including a two-run home run to left, helped the Regents expand their lead to 7-3.
- After Rockford expanded the lead to 8-3 with an RBI single to left, Edgewood College kicked off their rally in the seventh.
Jacob Carney singled in two runs, before a
Brevin Brisack double to left center plated a pair to trim the lead down to one.
-
Kris Hahn silenced the Regents offense late in the game, while a
Terry Tolliver Jr. single to center field would tie things off and send things into extras. Hahn and Fabis locked into a pitcher's duel, but Rockford blinked first in the 12th as Ambrosy singled in a run to survive and advance.
- Brisack hit 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two doubles.
Colby Davis also shined, hitting 3-for-4 with two runs as a key part of the Eagles rally.
- Tolliver,
Daniel Bentivegna, and Ambrosy each had two hits.
- Hahn earned the victory, striking out six in six innings of relief.
- Bilotta hit 4-for-7 with two runs, three RBIs, a home run, and a double for the Regents.
