Eagles fall short to Dubuque

VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's lacrosse team fell to the University of Dubuque on Wednesday night. The Spartans earned a 12-9 conference victory, behind a six goal second quarter. Maddux Ptasienski was a key cog in the Eagles attack on Wednesday, recording six points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (3-8, 2-5 NACC) led 2-1 through the first 15 minutes of action on Wednesday evening. Ptasienski tied the game up at one goal apiece with 6:30 on the clock. James Borgardt gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead with a goal in the final four minutes. Tyler Stockwell assisted on both Eagle goals in the opening quarter.

- The University of Dubuque (6-6, 5-2 NACC) responded with a whopping six goals in the second quarter. Ptasienski scored twice for the Eagles in the second quarter, but it wasn't enough to slow down the Spartans. Dubuque led 7-4 at halftime.

- The Eagles cut into the Spartans lead in the third quarter, scoring three times and reducing the lead to two goals by the end of the quarter. Nick Orosoc, Brady Hunn and Ptasienski each scored out of the break.

- At multiple points in the final quarter the Eagles were within striking distance of the Spartans. It was a back-and-forth scoring quarter, but ultimately the Spartans came away with the win, scoring three times in the final 15 minutes.

- Logan Searles was key for the Eagles in net. The sophomore made 15 total saves, five of which came in the third quarter and helped the Eagles get within two goals of the Spartans.

TOP PERFORMERS
- Ptasienski recorded a career-best four goals on Wednesday Night. His two assists gave him a career-best six points in the conference contest.

- Stockwell dished out a game-high four assists and scored once.

- James Borgardt scored twice and dished out an assist.

- Searles recorded 15 saves in net for the Eagles.

- Alek Maurer, Nick Orosco, and CJ Mandile each recorded two caused turnovers.

THE OPPOSITION
- Aidan Culligan recorded five goals and dished out one assist.

- Aiden Ennett scored twice and added an assist.

- Nolan Nagy recorded eight saves in net.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will travel to MSOE on Saturday. Action is set for 3:30 p.m. from Milwaukee.
