VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's lacrosse team and Aurora University came into Saturday as two of three unbeaten teams in NACC play. The Spartans came away with a 20-9 victory in the conference battle. 15 goals for the Spartans in the first two quarters was too much to overcome for the Eagles attack on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (4-6, 3-1 NACC) scored first in the NACC battle on Saturday. Rachel Unitan found the back of the net to open the contest. Aurora University (7-5, 4-0 NACC) roared back with three goals to take a 3-1 advantage. Madelyn Kilday, Emma Raupp and Kerry Costello all scored in the first quarter, but a whopping nine goals from the Spartans was a fast start. The Spartans scored four goals in the final four minutes of the quarter.
- The Spartans continued their offensive dominance in the second quarter, scoring six unanswered goals to take a 15-5 lead at halftime.
- The Eagles only managed four goals after halftime, all coming from Raupp.
- The draw control proved to be important in the first two quarters, as Aurora won nine in the first quarter and four in the second. The Eagles trailed the Spartans by two (17-15) draw controls when the final seconds fell off the clock in the fourth quarter.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Raupp scored six goals for the Eagles. The senior added nine draw controls on the afternoon.
- Zoee Pond totaled eight saves in net for the Eagles.
THE OPPOSITION
- Caley Russell posted a whopping six goals and dished out two assists.
- Kenly Axvig recorded four goals and dished out two assists for the Spartans attack. She added five draw controls on the day.
- Brianna Peck totaled four goals and one assist. She added four ground balls and four draw controls.
- Rachel Wickey recorded three saves and the victory in net for the Spartans.
