VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College softball team faced Concordia University Chicago on Saturday, welcoming the Cougars to Ceniti Park for a NACC twinbill. The Cougars swept the Eagles, 9-8 and 8-4.
CONCORDIA CHICAGO 9, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 8
- Edgewood College (8-16, 3-5 NACC) opened game one with a six run first inning on Saturday. The Eagles scoring got going with an RBI double off the bat of Olivia Hebert. Gracie Halfman followed that up with a two RBI double to left center to give the Eagles a 3-0 advantage. A pair of singles from Allie Draper and Bean Dubree drove in runs four, five and six.
- Concordia Chicago (11-9, 4-2 NACC) got on the board in the fourth inning, with an RBI single down the right field line scoring the first Cougars run of the day. Concordia Chicago tacked on three more runs in the top of the fifth frame.
- The Eagles weren't satisfied with a 6-4 lead, scoring one run in the sixth inning for a 7-4 advantage.
- The Cougars broke the game open in the top of the seventh, with a solo-home run giving Concordia Chicago their fifth run of the game. The Cougars would plate four more runs in the inning to take their first lead of the day, 9-7. The Eagles plated a run in the bottom of the frame, but it wasn't enough to take home the victory.
- Kya Loffswold went 3-for-4 in game one. Hebert, Halfman and Draper each recorded two hits for the Eagles.
- Lauren Prigge earned the start in the circle for the Eagles, going 4.2 innings and striking out a batter.
CONCORDIA CHICAGO 8, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 4
- Concordia Chicago continued their consistent hitting in game two, opening the nightcap with two runs in the top of the first inning.
- Edgewood College scored four in the third frame to take a 4-2 lead.
- The Cougars battled back with four runs in the fourth inning to re-take the lead at 6-4. A pair of home runs off the Cougars bats in the fourth and seventh frames solidified the 8-4 final for the visiting team.
- Draper went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Eagles.
- Grace Baugnet threw 3.1 innings for the Eagles, striking out a batter and scattering seven hits. Nikki Fahey threw 3.2 innings of relief, collecting four hits.
