VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's lacrosse team hosted Concordia Wisconsin on Senior Day, Saturday. The Eagles defeated the Falcons 15-12 for their third-straight victory. The Eagles celebrated the careers of six seniors – Alex King, Emma Raupp, Rachel Unitan, Macy Augustine, Georgia Vandigo, and Zoee Pond. With the victory, the Eagles clinch the third seed and hosting rights in the First Round of the NACC Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Edgewood College (7-7, 6-2 NACC) attack didn't let them down when it mattered on Senior Day, scoring six goals in both the first and third quarters. The Eagles opened the contest with a 6-2 advantage through the first quarter of action. Kerry Costello, Emma Raupp, Christina Eloe and Georgia Vandigo each scored for the Eagles through the first 15 minutes.
"MsoNormal">- Concordia Wisconsin (5-9, 4-4 NACC) responded with five goals in the second quarter. The Falcons closed the gap to the Eagles twice in the quarter.
Cadence Trimberger netted her first career-goal to help the Eagles escape the Falcons advances. Eloe and Raupp both scored in the second quarter to help the Eagles lead 9-7 at halftime.
- The Falcons tied the contest at nine goals apiece with 7:43 in the third quarter. Kerry Costello scored for the Eagles to take a 10-9 lead, but another goal from the Falcons tied the contest at 10. Raupp took over from there, scoring four of the Eagles five final goals to close out the quarter with a 15-10 advantage.
- The Eagles did well to take advantage of opportunities off the draw control, winning 18. Concordia Wisconsin won just 13 on the afternoon.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Raupp scored a whopping seven goals for the Eagles. She added four draw controls on the day.
- Eloe scored recorded five draw controls, scored four goals, dished out two assists and caused two turnovers.
- Georgia Vandigo dished out three assists and scored a goal.
- Zoee Pond recorded 12 saves for the Eagles.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College has claimed a spot to the NACC Tournament for the fourth-straight season. The Eagles will be the third seed in the Tournament and host a NACC Tournament First Round match-up on Saturday, April 26.
THE OPPOSITION
- Katelyn Cardinale scored four goals for the Falcons and recorded a team-best six draw controls.
- Carolyn Bourgeault scored three goals, dished out three assists and picked up three ground balls.
- Natalie Mackrell picked up five ground balls, caused four turnovers, recorded three draw controls, scored three goals, and dished out one assist.
- Parks Cawthray recorded five saves in net for the Falcons.
