VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College softball team faced Benedictine University on Saturday, welcoming the fellow Eagles to Ceniti Park for a NACC twinbill. The Cougars swept the Eagles, 8-0 and 11-10.
BENEDICTINE UNIVERSITY 8, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 0 – 5 INNINGS
- The Edgewood College (10-22, 5-11 NACC) bats struggled in game one on Saturday, only recording four hits.
- Benedictine (17-13, 6-8 NACC) posted runs in all five innings of game one. After three innings, the visiting Eagles led 3-0. Benedictine tacked on runs in the third and fourth frames before scoring three runs in the top of the fifth inning to earn the run-rule victory.
- Benedictine pitcher Mackenzie Johnson earned the shutout victory, striking out five batters.
- Gracie Halfman went 2-for-2 for Edgewood College and added a stolen base.
BENEDICTINE UNIVERSITY 11, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 10
- Edgewood College opened game two with a two-run home run by Olivia Hebert for an early 2-0 advantage through the first frame.
- Benedictine responded with two a two-run blast of their own to tie the contest.
- A Bean Dubree triple down the right field line opened the Edgewood College scoring in the second frame. Edgewood College plated three runs in the second inning for a 5-2 advantage.
- Again, Benedictine posted a three-run inning of their own to tie the contest at three-runs apiece.
- The Edgewood College bats responded in the bottom of the third frame with three runs for an 8-5 lead. Hebert posted another home run in the fourth inning for a 9-5 advantage.
- Going into the final frame Edgewood College led 10-8. Benedictine loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning and scored three runs to take their first lead of game two, at 11-10. Edgewood College couldn't get anything going in the bottom of the frame, dropping a heartbreaker in the nightcap.
- Hebert went 2-for-3, scoring two runs and recording four RBI.
- Dubree went 2-for-2 at the plate and drove in two runs.
- Grace Ott and Lily Mabs both recorded two hits on the afternoon.
- Lauren Prigge recorded 5.2 innings in the circle for the Eagles.
