Dominant fourth quarter attack lifts Eagles past Rams

VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's lacrosse team battled back on Wednesday evening, taking home a comeback win over Cornell College. The Eagles secured the 11-7 victory, scoring six unanswered goals in the final 15 minutes in the NACC battle.  

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With 15 minutes remaining, Cornell College (7-6, 5-2 NACC) led Edgewood College (6-7, 5-2 NACC) 7-5. The Eagles, who led early in the first quarter, gave up four goals in the second quarter and two in the third to the Rams.

- The Eagles attack, determined to take home the victory, scored six unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to earn the NACC win. Kerry Costello going the Eagles going with 11:44 left on the clock. The sophomore converting a pass from Malak Daoud to give the Eagles their sixth goal of the evening.

- Emma Raupp netted the next three goals of the evening, to give the Eagles a 9-7 advantage. The tying goal was unassisted with 10:54 left on the clock. Costello and Rachel Unitan assisted on the following two goals from Raupp. Unitan got in on the action herself, scoring with 5:53 remaining to give the Eagles a 10-7 advantage.

- The Eagles opened the contest with three-straight goals on Wednesday evening. Georgia Vandigo found the back of the net just 24 seconds into the game, assisted by Unitan. Raupp and Christina Eloe both scored to help the Eagles to a 3-1 advantage after 15 minutes of action.

- Despite scoring the first goal of the second quarter, the Rams would go on to score four-straight to close out the quarter and take a 5-4 advantage into halftime.

- Edgewood College dominated the draw control, earning 14, while Cornell managed just seven.

TOP PERFORMERS
- Raupp scored five goals to lead the Eagles attack. The senior added six draw controls and two ground balls.

- Unitan dished out three assists and scored once.

- Eloe picked up seven ground balls, secured three draw controls, and scored twice.

- Lauryn Brown caused six turnovers, picked up six ground balls, collected four draw controls and scored a goal.

- Costello dished out two assists and scored.

- Daoud added two assists on the evening.

- Zoee Pond recorded four saves in net for the Eagles.

THE OPPOSITION
- Sabrina Ibanez posted two goals and dished out two assists.

- Natalie Hudgins scored twice and caused two turnovers.

- Ilsa Jeffery caused five turnovers and picked up six ground balls.

- Hannah Miech recorded eight saves in net for the Rams.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will host Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday, April 19. The Eagles will celebrate the senior class prior to the contest at 1:00 p.m.
