MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Under the lights at Viets Filed the Edgewood College women's lacrosse team took home a crucial conference victory over MSOE on Friday. The Eagles held on for a 9-8 victory over the Raiders. Emma Raupp scored the tying and winning goal for Edgewood College in the final 10 minutes of action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With just 10:51 left on the clock, MSOE (2-10, 2-4 NACC) scored their fourth goal of the fourth quarter to take an 8-7 advantage. Edgewood College (5-7, 4-2 NACC) responded with a save by Zoee Pond and goal by Raupp to tie the contest at eight goals apiece. The Eagles controlled ball possession in the final nine minutes. The Raiders only managing four shots in the final 8:32 of the contest. In comparison, the Eagles took 10 shots, one of which found the back of the net for the winning goal. With 7:05 remaining, Raupp and the Eagles attack took advantage of a player-up situation to score the winning goal.
- Eagles goalkeeper Zoee Pond was crucial in the final quarter, making four saves, including one with just eight seconds left to clinch the victory for Edgewood College.
- The Eagles opened the contest with two goals in the first quarter, both from Raupp. Rachel Unitan continued to connect with Raupp, assisting on both efforts.
- MSOE tied the contest with 10:27 on the clock in the second quarter. The Eagles squeaked out of the second quarter with a 6-4 advantage following a whopping four goals from Christina Eloe.
- Kerry Costello scored the only goal of the third quarter between either team. Costello's effort coming with 5:11 remaining before the final quarter of action.
- The Eagles and Raiders contest saw five tie scores.
- Edgewood College did well to clear the ball on Friday evening, going 22-for-24. MSOE did the same, only failing one clear (17-18).
TOP PERFORMERS
- Raupp posted four goals for the Eagles. She collected a team-best three draw controls.
- Eloe recorded her best scoring performance in conference play, yet this season. The junior posted four goals, caused four turnovers and collective five ground balls.
- Unitan continued her assisting dominance, dishing out four assists.
- Pond was crucial down the stretch, collecting 11 saves in net for the Eagles. Eight of Pond's saves came after halftime.
- Ashlynn Coleman caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls.
THE OPPOSITION
- Chloe Ninmann led the Raiders with four goals.
- Vayda Flower dished out three assists and scored once.
- Alexis Slater and Alana Perry each recorded three caused turnovers.
- Molly Benjamins and Laura Melizza split time in net for MSOE. Melizza posted seven saves on the night.
