WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's lacrosse team fell to Carroll University 8-7 on Saturday. The Eagles managed to tie the game at seven goals apiece with 6:12 remaining, but a goal from the Pioneers with three minutes left solidified the non-conference victory for the home team. Zach Thomas netted his first hat trick of the season for Edgewood College.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Going into the final quarter of action, Carroll University (3-1) led Edgewood College (1-3) 7-5. The Eagles scored two-straight goals to tie the contest at seven goals apiece. Thomas got the Eagles going, scoring with 7:07 remaining, assisted by Maddux Ptasienski. Tyler Stockwell took advantage of a man-up opportunity to tie the contest at seven goals.
- Carroll University got the final word on Saturday, scoring their eighth and winning goal with 3:47 remaining in the fourth quarter.
- The Pioneers and Eagles recorded a slow start on Saturday. Both teams combined for just three goals in the first quarter, with the Pios leading 2-1 after the first 15 minutes.
- Edgewood College scored three goals in the second quarter, but Carroll was just one step ahead, scoring four goals before halftime. Carroll led Edgewood College 6-4 at the break.
- Both teams only scored once in the third quarter.
- Edgewood College saw improvement in many aspects of the game on Saturday, going 22-for-23 on the clear and dominating the faceoff at 14 wins on the afternoon.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Sean Callen was effective for Edgewood College on the faceoff, going 14-for-17. Callen added eight ground balls.
- Thomas led the Eagles three goals.
- Rewey and Ptasienski each picked up five ground balls.
- Nick Krus started in net for the Eagles, recording three saves. Logan Searles came into goal in the final minutes of the second quarter, making six saves across 33 minutes in net.
THE OPPOSITION
- Brady Conwell recorded three goals to pace the Pioneers attack.
- Brady Mollsen and Ethan Phillips each scored twice for Carroll.
- Bady Raczkowski recorded 10 ground balls.
- Jake Gehl recorded 12 saves in net for Carroll.
