ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Edgewood College softball team split with Rockford University in conference play on Saturday. The Eagles shutout the Regents 5-0, before falling in game two 4-3. Seven extra-base hits were recorded by the Eagles on Saturday, highlighted by three triples in game one.
EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 5, ROCKFORD UNIVERSITY 0
- The Edgewood College (8-12, 3-1 NACC) bats were rolling in game one at Rockford on Saturday. The Eagles recorded 11 hits, including a double and three triples. Olivia Hebert, Gracie Halfman and Lily Mabs each recorded a triple in the conference battle. Hebert went 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring a run and driving in a run. Natalie Fields, Halfman and Mabs each recorded two hits.
- The Eagles and Regents went through three scoreless innings on Saturday morning. Edgewood College scored two runs in the top of the fourth frame. Grace Baugnet scored the Eagles first run, coming across to score thanks to an error by the Regents. A double steal gave the Eagles a 2-0 advantage through four innings.
- Mabs led off the top of the sixth inning with a triple to right field. An RBI single from Camden Shepherd plated Mabs for the Eagles third run. Later in the inning, Hebert and Shepherd came across to score via a triple off the bat of Hebert.
- Lauren Prigge earned her fourth victory of the season. The freshman went the distance in the circle, striking out four batters and allowing just three hits.
ROCKFORD UNIVERSITY 4, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 3
- Rockford University (11-5, 2-2 NACC) scored first in game one, plating a single run in the bottom of the first frame.
- Edgewood College responded, as Grace Ott reached on a leadoff double to left center field in the top of the second inning. Ott came across to score via a first and third situation later in the inning to tie the game at one apiece.
- Rockford plated two runs in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead.
- Ott knotted the game up at three runs apiece with a two-run home run to left center in the sixth inning.
- The Regents had the last word on Saturday, scoring via an RBI double to right center.
- Ott went 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring twice and driving in two Eagles. Halfman recorded her second triple of the day in the nightcap.
- Grace Baugnet earned the start in the circle for the Eagles, pitching 1.1 innings and striking out a batter. Tatum Duff threw three innings in relief, scattering four hits. Kaitlin Pratt pitched 1.2 innings, striking out a batter.
- Kariana Williams earned the complete game victory for the Regents. The senior struck out four batters and scattered five hits. Michaela Froehlich went 3-for-3 at the plate, scoring a run and driving in a run for Rockford.
