Eagles down Scarlet Hawks to open NACC play

VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's lacrosse team scored 11 unanswered goals on Wednesday to rout Illinois Tech. The Eagles defeated the Scarlet Hawks 17-3 in their conference opener. Six different Eagles scored on Wednesday, including eight goals from Emma Raupp.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (2-5, 1-0 NACC) opened Wednesday afternoon with six goals in the first quarter. The Eagles recorded a slow start but turned on the heat in the final 10 minutes of the quarter. Raupp netted the Eagles first goal. Kerry Costello, Madelyn Kilday and Lauryn Brown all contributed to the Edgewood College scoring effort in the first quarter.

- Raupp continued to shine for the Eagles, scoring five goals before halftime.

- The Eagles took a 10-0 lead into halftime.

- Antonia Martinez scored the first goal for Illinois Tech (1-8, 0-1 NACC) with 9:41 remaining in the third quarter.

- Edgewood College responded by scoring four goals to end the third quarter with a 15-1 advantage.

- Martinez scored the final two goals of the contest, but it was too little, too late for the Scarlet Hawks.

- Tatyana Ryan netted two goals in the second half for the Eagles.

TOP PERFORMERS
- Raupp posted eight goals and dished out an assist for the Eagles. The senior added seven draw controls

- Costello posted three goals and two assists.

- Brown collected nine ground balls, five draw controls, caused three turnovers, scored twice and dished out an assist.

- Zoee Pond posted five saves in net for the Eagles.

THE OPPOSITION
- Antonia Martinez netted a hat trick and collected six draw controls for the Scarlet Hawks.

- Isabelle Niebler caused four turnovers and collected six ground balls.

- Mercy Godfrey recorded 12 saves in net for the Scarlet Hawks.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will face Lawrence University on Saturday, March 29. Action is set for 1:00 p.m. from Appleton, Wis.
