FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Seven different players scored for Edgewood College on Wednesday as they defeated Marian University 14-6. The Eagles offensive onslaught helped them capture their first conference victory of the season. Nick Orosco posted a whopping five goals for the Eagles, setting the Eagles career goal record in the process.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (2-5, 1-2 NACC) took advantage of consistent scoring opportunities to rout Marian University (2-4, 1-2 NACC) on Wednesday. The Eagles scored three or more goals in each quarter.
- Orosco opened the Eagles scoring with 12:27 on the clock in the first quarter. Orosco's goal assisted by Maddux Ptasienski.
- The Sabres tied the game at one goal apiece in the 11th minute. The Eagles scored twice in the final three minutes to take a 3-1 advantage into the second quarter. Lake Rewey and Brady Hunn scored goals two and three, respectively. Ptasienski assisted on both goals for the Eagles.
- Edgewood College blew the contest open in the second quarter, scoring three times, but more importantly, beginning the Eagles scoring run that would end in the fourth quarter after eight unanswered goals.
- Orsoco recorded the hat trick in the second quarter, his goals assisted by Rewey and Luke Quakenbush in the seondc quarter.
- Quakenbush closed the second quarter with a goal of his own to give the Eagles a 6-2 lead at halftime.
- The Eagles kept the Sabres off the scoreboard in the third quarter. The Eagles added goals from Quakenbush, Alek Maurer and Tyler Stockwell in the third quarter.
- Four different Eagles scored in the final 15 minutes to total five goals. Marian found the back of the net four times in the final quarter, but it wasn't enough to take away the victory.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Edgewood College collected a lot of momentum from the faceoff on Wednesday. Sean Callen and Caden Cauldwell shared duties in the faceoff, with Cauldwell going 6-for-9 and Callen collecting 10-of-14 on the evening. Combined, the two Eagles won 16-of-23 in the conference win.
- Orosco tied his career-best single game mark of five goals from April 30, 2022, against Beloit.
- Quakenbush recorded his second-straight hat trick on Wednesday. The senior added an assist and nine ground balls.
- Rewey recorded two goals and two assists.
- Andrew Stich collected four caused turnovers.
- Logan Searles collected five saves in net for the Eagles.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Orosco set the Edgewood College men's lacrosse career goals record on Wednesday night. The senior moved past Blake Stockwell's (2021-24) mark of 75 goals, to own 77 goals in his career.
- Stockwell moved past current graduate assistant coach and former teammate Avery Bugaj (2021-24) for the Eagles career assists mark. Stockwell now owns 40 assists across four seasons.
THE OPPOSITION
- Serge Simard posted two goals for Marian on Wednesday evening.
- Shay Nolen collected a team-high three caused turnovers and picked up three ground balls.
- Jackson Sweeney recorded 18 saves in net for the Sabres.
