Quakenbush's hat trick not enough, Eagles fall to Scarlet Hawks

VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's lacrosse team faced Illinois Tech in conference play on Saturday. Despite an early advantage from the Eagles, the Scarlet Hawks attack dominated the second half to take home a 10-5 victory. Luke Quakenbush recorded his first hat trick in the Eagles conference defeat.  

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Luke Quakenbush scored twice for Edgewood College (1-5, 0-2 NACC) in the opening quarter on Saturday. The senior opened the contest with an unassisted goal just 34 seconds into the contest. Quakenbush closed out the quarter with another goal in the final 34 seconds. Edgewood College held Illinois Tech scoreless in the opening quarter, despite six shots, two on goal.

- Illinois Tech (3-4, 2-0 NACC) responded with a three goal second quarter. The Scarlet Hawks held the Eagles scoreless in the second quarter and took a 3-2 advantage with 2:46 remaining in the quarter.

- After halftime, the Scarlet Hawks attack continued to roll, scoring four goals. Quakenbush completed the hat trick with 7:53 on the clock in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough to slow down the Scarlet Hawks.

- Lake Rewey and Alek Maurer both scored via man-up situations in the final quarter, but it was too little, too late for the Eagles. Illinois Tech countered with three goals in the final 15 minutes to come away with the conference victory.

TOP PERFORMERS
- Quakenbush netted his first career hat trick on Saturday afternoon.

- Searles continued to lock down the Eagles defense with a career-best 14 saves. The Eagle goaltender kept the Scarlet Hawks within close range in the second half, making eight saves after halftime.

- Sean Callen went 6-for-18 on the faceoff on Saturday.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- With one assist against Illinois Tech, Tyler Stockwell is now tied with Avery Bugaj for the Eagles career-assists record. Bugaj, now a graduate assistant coach, recorded 39 assists between 2021 and 2024.

THE OPPOSITION
- Diego Sosa totaled three goals and one assist for Illinois Tech.

- Yano Porter and Marc Rebusi each scored twice for the Scarlet Hawks.

- Alexander Stokrp dished out a game-high four assists.

- Duwayne Aikins and Canyon Kuchel split faceoff duties for Illinois Tech. Kuchel went 6-for-7, while Aikins won 6-of-8.

- Kyle Johnson collected 15 saves in net for the Scarlet Hawks.

- Edgewood College will travel to Marian University on Wednesday. Action is set for 5:00 p.m. from Fond du Lac, Wis.
