Eagles shine on offense in sweep of Regents

MADISON, WIS. – Men's Volleyball returned to action at the Todd Wehr Edgedome Thursday as they started a key stretch of NACC action. They took on the Rockford Regents in a conference tilt. The Eagles (6-11, 3-5 NACC) put together a strong offensive performance in a 3-0 (25-13, 26-24, 25-13) sweep of the Regents (6-16, 0-8).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the squads started tied 5-5, an 11-3 explosion by Edgewood College put them in control of the set. Rockford had no answers for the high-flying Eagles as they claimed a 25-13 victory.
 
- The Regents hung tough in the second set. After Edgewood College put together a 5-2 rally for a 15-13 edge, Rockford battled back to a 15-15 tie. A late 4-0 burst had the Regents on the doorstep of evening the match 24-23, but the Eagles offense clipped Rockford's wings with three points in a row to claim a 2-0 lead.
 
- Edgewood College left no room for doubt in a dominant third set, hitting .571 with one attack error. After going up 8-6, the Eagles roared ahead on an 11-2 burst to claim a dominant sweep.
   
- Edgewood College outhit Rockford .385-to-.025 and had a 36-to-23 advantage in kills.
 
- 11 Eagles players recorded kills in the victory. Gavin Patterson swung for nine kills with a .471 hitting percentage on 17 attempts. He also earned five aces.
 
- Owen Voigt posted five blocks in the victory, while Dazerien Hicks added three of his own.
 
- Will Gehrke tallied 26 assists and two aces. Jack Mullane earned nine kills.
 
- Ryder Hill-Zastrow recorded eight kills and seven digs in the victory.
 

 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The .385 hitting percentage as a team was the best in a single match this season.
 
- The six attack errors as a team were also Edgewood College's fewest as a team.
 
- Patterson's five aces matched his career best.
 
- The Eagles have won five straight against the Regents

Edgewood College hits the road for another pivotal NACC matchup Saturday. They'll head up to De Pere, Wis. to take on the St. Norbert Green Knights. First serve is scheduled for noon.
