NEENAH, WIS. – Women's Tennis returned to action Sunday for a pair of nonconference matches. They faced off with the UW-Stevens Point Pointers and the Lawrence Vikings. The Eagles (13-4) dropped a pair of 4-3 nailbiters against both the Pointers (11-7) and Vikings (7-10).
MATCH ONE: UW-STEVENS POINT 4, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 3
- The Eagles started the match off on the right footing with the doubles point.
Evelyn Taylor and
Marissa Light claimed a 6-3 victory in top doubles, while
Madelyn Connaughty and
Hattie Plenty emerged victorious in a 7-5 nailbiter.

Sarah Emory and
Christina Ekkela had a strong showing in third doubles with a 6-2 victory.
- The Pointers evened the match with a 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 1-0 (10-4) thriller win against Taylor in top billing. Light dropped a 6-4, 6-2 final in second singles.
- Plenty fell 6-2, 7-5 in third singles as UW-Stevens Point sat in striking distance of match point. Connaughty rallied in a marathon 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) battle in no. 4 singles to keep Edgewood College alive.
- Ekkela had a strong 6-3, 6-2 showing in fifth singles to even the match at 3-3. Emory battled to the very end in a 6-3, 7-5 defeat in sixth singles.
MATCH TWO: LAWRENCE 4, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 3
- The Eagles continued their strong doubles day with Taylor/Light and Plenty/Connaughty winning 6-4 in no. 1 and no. 2 doubles respectively.
- Emory/Ekkela dropped a tough 7-5 battle in the third slot.
- The Vikings rallied in the opening matches of singles. Taylor fell by a 6-1, 2-6, 10-8 margin in top billing, while Light conceded a 6-2, 6-4 final.
- Plenty evened the match 2-2 with a 7-5, 6-1 win in the third slot. Connaughty won by opponent retirement in no. 4 singles.
- Lawrence bounced back once more, knocking down Ekkela 6-2, 6-4 in fifth singles and Emory 6-2, 6-0 in sixth singles to claim victory.

Women's Tennis will return to action for their Spring Break trip in Orlando, Fla. They'll kick things off on Monday, March 17 against Western Connecticut State. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Eastern.
