CLERMONT, Fla. – The Edgewood College softball team opened its time at The Spring Games on Friday. The Eagles faced Gordon College in their first appearance in the Sunshine State in 2025, followed by Juniata College in the nightcap. Gordon College took home a 9-3 victory in game one. Two Eagle teams clashed in the nightcap, with Juniata earning the 7-2 victory.
GORDON COLLEGE 9, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 3
- Edgewood College (1-7) and Gordon College (3-6) both opened the game with a three up, three down inning on defense.
- The Fighting Scots struck first in the bottom of the second frame, scoring four runs. A trio of singles and a stolen base resulted in a 4-0 advantage for Gordon through two innings.
- Edgewood College responded with runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Grace Ott got the Eagles going in the fourth frame, leading off with a single. Gracie Halfman did her part, moving Ott via a sacrifice bunt. A Lily Mabs double down the right field line plated Ott from second for the Eagles first run of the game.
- The Eagles continued to chip away, with an Olivia Hebert double plating Kya Loffswold in the fifth frame.
- Halfman scored for the Eagles in the sixth inning thanks to a Loffswold single.
- The Scots tacked on two runs in the bottom of the sixth frame.
- Hebert and Ott each recorded two hits against Gordon. Hebert roped two doubles.
- Grace Baugnet earned the start in the circle, pitching 2.1 innings and striking out three batters. Kaitlin Pratt pitched 2.2 innings in relief, recording two K's.
JUNIATA COLLEGE 7, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 2
- In the nightcap, Edgewood College got on top of Juniata College (2-6) in the second inning. Mabs plated Halfman on an RBI single to center field. Chloe McLaughlin scored Allie Draper from third to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
- Juniata put a run on the board in the fourth inning via a single to center field. Ott flashed the leather for the Eagles earlier in the frame, making a diving catch and completing the double play.
- Juniata would score twice in the fifth frame to take a 3-2 lead.
- It was all Juniata scoring in the sixth, and seventh, as the fellow Eagles tacked on four more runs to close out the day.
- Draper led the Eagles attack, going 2-for-3 at the plate and scoring a run. Hebert and Ott each added two hits.
- Lauren Prigge got the start in the circle for the Eagles, throwing four innings and striking out two batters. Pratt recorded two innings in relief, striking out two.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- With two runners caught stealing in the Eagles contest vs Juniata, senior Olivia Hebert is now the Edgewood College softball career leader in caught stealing. Hebert passes Sabrina Luedtke (2016-19) who previously held the record with 41 runners caught stealing.
