PENSACOLA, FLA. – Baseball continued action in Florida with a top-ranked foe Friday. They battled with the UW-Whitewater Warhawks, ranked No. 1 in the latest D3baseball.com poll. The Warhawks (7-0) got the better of the Eagles (2-7) with a strong sixth inning in a 9-7 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A lead-off
Terry Tolliver Jr. double turned into a run with a
Jacob Carney single to left center in the first as Edgewood College led 1-0 after one. A sacrifice fly to right field in the second followed by a double down the left field line in the third added a run each for UW-Whitewater as they led 2-1 after three.
-
Hayden Hellenbrand got the lead back in the fourth with a two-RBI double to left field. UW-Whitewater evened the game 3-3 with help from a wild pitch in the fifth before going on the offensive in the sixth. After taking the lead back with an RBI single up the middle and adding another run, a double to right center scored another for a 6-3 tally. A trio of RBI singles would leave things 9-3 UW-Whitewater after the top of the sixth.
- A dropped fly ball with the bases loaded scored three for the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth as they kept the pressure on. A fielder's choice from
Ryan Ambrosy in the seventh cut the lead to 9-7, but the Warhawks bullpen clamped down on the Edgewood College lineup in the eighth and ninth for the victory.
- Hellenbrand hit 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double.
Kyle Prindle swung 2-for-5.
-
Aidan Williams pitched well in the start. He struck out three and allowed two earned runs in five innings.
- Aaron Holland and Eli Frank both hit 3-for-5 with a double for UW-Whitewater.
- Max Huseboe earned the save, striking out three in two innings pitched. George Hansen claimed the victory for the Warhawks.
