Game Recap: Baseball |

Eagles bats come alive against Pios

PENSACOLA, FLA. – Baseball entered another day in Florida with a doubleheader against a nonconference foe. They faced off with the Carroll Pios in a pair of games. The Pios (8-5) got the better of the Eagles (2-6) in a 12-0 game one, but Edgewood College struck back in a big way with a 24-10 victory in game two.

GAME ONE: CARROLL 12, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 0 (7 INNINGS)
- The Pios got on the board early. A sacrifice grounder and a double to left center punched in a pair of runs in the first inning. A bases-loaded single to left field and a sacrifice fly to right in the third left things 4-0 Carroll after three.

- A throwing error and a sacrifice fly to left field sent two more home for the Pios in the fourth. The Eagles continued to struggle to get offense going as Carroll added three more in the fifth, two more in the sixth, and an insurance run in the seventh to clinch a shutout victory.

- Tyler Fredrick pitched a complete-game gem. He held Edgewood College to three hits and struck out four in seven innings.

 - Joey Appino hit 3-for-5 with four RBIs and a double. Dalen Lamberson swung 3-for-4 with a walk and a pair of runs.

GAME TWO: EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 24, CARROLL 10 (8 INNINGS)
- The tone for the nightcap was set in the first inning. The Eagles put three on the board in the first, including a two-run home run from Kyle Prindle, while the Pios left things 3-1 after one with a grounder to second.

- Edgewood College took full advantage of mistakes in the second inning, tacking on three more runs including a Hayden Hellenbrand RBI double. Carroll plated two in the bottom of the second, but a pop up with the bases loaded ended the threat.

-  A seven-run third broke things wide open for the Eagles. Edgewood College would load the bases after an early run and took full advantage, three walks and a bunt each plating a run. The Eagles would lead 13-3 after three.

- The Pios battled back in the middle innings. A home run to right field sparked a three-run fourth. Carroll loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the fifth, but the Eagles recorded back-to-back outs to limit the damage. A double to right field in the sixth would leave things 13-9 after six.

- Edgewood College blunted the Pios momentum in the seventh after the Eagles plated one in the sixth. A two-RBI Hellenbrand triple to right center snapped their scoreless drought as Edgewood College put together a three-run seventh. The Eagles would close the book on the evening in a seven-run eighth. Once again, Edgewood College loaded the bases and after a walk and a hit by pitch tacked on a run each, Dominic Lee sent a triple down the left field line for three runs to put an exclamation point on the victory.

- Nine batters reached base for the Eagles in the victory. The Eagles earned 18 walks as a team

-  Prindle hit 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a home run.

- Hellenbrand earned a double and a triple alongside five RBIs. Lee tallied four RBIs and two walks as well as his triple.

- Terry Tolliver Jr. recorded four runs, four walks, and three stolen bases. Carson Richter earned a double, while Jacob Carney added three RBIs.
