VERONA, Wis. – Despite frigid temperatures and winds hovering around 20 miles per hour at Edgewood College Field at Reddan Park, the Edgewood College men's lacrosse team earned their first victory of 2025. The Eagles defeated non-conference opponent Clarke University 16-9 on Friday evening. Lake Rewey led the Eagles with four goals, while Ryan Tolbert collected his first career hat trick in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (1-2) came out of the gate firing, as Maddux Ptasienski netted back-to-back goals to take a 2-0 lead with 8:51 remaining in the first quarter. Zach Thomas found the back of the goal, assisted by Tyler Stockwell for 3-0 lead for the Eagles. Clarke University (1-1) scored twice before the end of the quarter, but Ryan Tolbert gave Edgewood College a 4-2 lead with his first goal as an Eagle.
- Lake Rewey joined the Eagles scoring efforts just 14 seconds into the second quarter. Rewey's first goal assisted by James Borgardt.
- The Eagles would continue the momentum in the second quarter, scoring four goals and taking an 8-4 lead into halftime.
- It was a choppy third quarter for both teams, as penalties and turnovers caused many momentum swings. Both teams scored once in the third quarter. Edgewood College took a 9-5 lead into the final 15 minutes.
- The Pride opened the fourth quarter with a goal from Saige Moran to reduce the Eagles lead to just three goals. Zach Thomas quickly responded with his second goal of the evening to give the Eagles their 10th goal.
- Matt Archer would score the Pride's eighth goal before a flurry of Eagles would put the game out of reach for Clarke.
- Tolbert, Rewey, Borgardt, and Luke Quakenbush all scored for Edgewood College in the fourth quarter. Quakenbush's goal gave the Eagles a 16-8 lead.
- Rewey led the Eagles with four goals.
- Tolbert recorded three goals.
- Thomas notched two goals and dished out two assists.
- James Borgardt collected six ground balls, scored once and added an assist.
- Sean Callen went 9-for-21 on the faceoff for the Eagles.
- Nick Krus earned the victory in net for the Eagles. The sophomore recorded 11 saves through 54 minutes.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- With two assists in the Eagles victory, Tyler Stockwell moves into second place in the record books for career assists. Stockwell now owns 38 assists, one behind current assistant coach and record-holder Avery Bugaj (39).
- Lake Rewey moves into a tie for fourth place on the Eagles record books for career points. Rewey now owns 93 career points.
THE OPPOSITION
- Xavier Howard led the Pride with two goals and seven ground balls.
- Eight total players contributed to the scoring effort for Clarke on Friday night.
- Jack Fritz recorded 18 saves in net for the Pride.
- Josh Pote and Abraham Agundez split time at the faceoff. Pote went 9-for-16, while Agundez went 8-for-11 for Clarke.
