Eagles fall at Carthage in non-conference battle

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's lacrosse team fell to Carthage College 18-6 Wednesday evening. The Firebirds consistent attack was too much for the Eagles, as Carthage scored five or more goals in the first and third periods.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (0-2) struggled to contain a fast-paced Carthage (4-0) offense on Wednesday. The Firebirds scoring six goals in the opening quarter. The Eagles scored first on the evening, as Zach Thomas found the back of the net with 12:21 remaining in the quarter. Lake Rewey added the second Eagle goal of the opening period with just 16 seconds remaining.

- The Eagles managed to slow down the Firebirds to just four goals in the second period. Edgewood College continued to struggle on the faceoff, only winning one of six in the second quarter. At halftime, the Firebirds led the Eagles 9-3. James Borgardt scored the Eagles only goal of the second quarter.

- Carthage scored a game-best six goals in the third quarter. The Firebirds took a convincing 15-4 lead into the final 15 minutes.

- Lake Rewey and Tyler Stockwell both scored for the Eagles in the final quarter, but it wasn't enough to make a dent in the Firebirds advantage. Carthage added three goals through the final quarter of action.

- Rewey and Borgardt led the Eagles with two goals apiece.

- Sean Callen went 6-for-18 on the faceoff for the Eagles.

- Nick Krus collected five saves in net for the Eagles through 37 minutes. Logan Searles collected a save through 22 minutes.

THE OPPOSITION
- Alec Gern led the Firebirds with five goals. Gern added four ground balls.

- Andrew Frey added four goals and an assist on Wednesday night.

- Joey Workman and Chad Kohlmann split duties on the faceoff. Kohlmann went 8-for-9, while Workman won 9-of-14 faceoffs.

- Jake Williamson earned the victory in net for Carthage, recording eight saves.

- Edgewood College will return home to host Clarke University on Saturday, March 1.
