Eagles fall to No. 23 Pointers, Vikings in Peoria

PEORIA, Ill. – The Edgewood College softball team battled two tough opponents in No. 23 UW-Stevens Point and Augustana College in day two of the Blue Angel Invite. The Eagle bats came alive to battle back-and-forth with the Vikings in the nightcap, falling in walk-off fashion.

#23 UW-STEVENS POINT 7, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 2
- Edgewood College (0-4) opened day two at the Blue Angel Invite facing No. 23 ranked UW-Stevens Point. The Eagles and Pointers were scoreless through two innings. UW-Stevens Point (2-1) broke open the contest in the bottom of the third frame, scoring six runs. The Pointers strung together a series of singles to plate speedy runners on base.

- The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the fifth frame. Kya Loffswold plated Camden Shepherd and Olivia Hebert via a single up the middle for the first two Eagle runs of the day.

- The Pointers took care of business in the final two innings, recording three-straight outs on defense and tacking on a run in the bottom of the sixth frame.

- Hebert, Natalie Fields, Loffswold, and Gracie Halfman each recorded a hit on Friday morning.

- Lauren Prigge recorded her second career-start for the Eagles, striking out two batters through 2.2 innings pitched. Tatum Duff pitched in relief, striking out one batter and not allowing an earned run through 3.1 innings in the circle.

- Morgan Harwood earned the win in the circle for the Pointers, striking out seven batters through 4.1 innings of work.

AUGUSTANA COLLEGE 6, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 5
- Augustana College (3-0) took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Eagles weren't phased with the Vikings bats, responding with two runs in the top of the second inning. Camden Shepherd tripled down the right field line to score Gracie Halfman to tie the game at one apiece. Bean Dubree's squeeze bunt scored Shepherd in the following at-bat.

- Augustana plated two runs in the third frame to take a 3-2 lead.

- Again, the Eagles bats came through in the fourth frame as Lily Mabs recorded a two-run home run, her first as an Eagle.

- Augustana knotted the game up in the bottom of the fourth inning.

- Grace Ott came through in the clutch for the Eagles in the seventh inning, scoring Olivia Hebert from second via a single to take a 5-4 lead over the Vikings.

- Two hits to the outfield were enough for the Vikings to take home the victory in the bottom of the seventh inning. Augustana earned the victory via a walk-off single to left field.

- Duff went four innings in the circle for the Eagles in game two, striking out a batter and only allowing two runs.

- Ott, Halfman, and Dubree each recorded two hits in the nightcap. Hebert and Halfman each roped doubles.

- Edgewood College will travel to the UW-Oshkosh Dome Games on Sunday, March 2. The Eagles will face No. 4 UW-Oshkosh at 12:00 p.m. before facing Beloit at 4:00 p.m.
