JACKSON, MISS. – Baseball hit the field for game two of a three-game series down south Saturday. They squared off once more against the Millsaps Majors as the bats came to life. The Majors (3-0) emerged victorious in an 11-8 slugfest against the Eagles (0-2).
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Ryan Harris set the tone for the game with a three-run home run to left center in the top of the second inning.
Daniel Bentivegna added another run with a single through the left side for a 4-0 advantage after two.
- Millsaps came up big in the fourth inning. A three-run shot to left field closed them within one, before a two RBI double to right field put them ahead by a run. A grounder to short wrapped up a six-run fourth as the hosts gained a 6-4 lead.
-
Jacob Carney and
Terry Tolliver Jr. each sent one out of the park to right field in the seventh inning, Carney sending in three while Tolliver's was a solo home run. A single to right center from the Majors left things 8-7 Edgewood College after seven.
- Millsaps took full advantage of a bases loaded, nobody out situation in the eighth. A sacrifice fly evened the game before a three-run homer put the Majors in the driver's seat 11-8.
- A single and a walk to start the ninth had the Eagles in a strong position with no outs, but three strikeouts would end the threat.
- Carney,
Brevin Brisack, and
Hayden Hellenbrand each had two hits for Edgewood College. Hellenbrand hit 2-for-3 with a run, a walk, and three stolen bases.
-
Aiden Shumaker pitched well in the start. He threw three innings with no hits allowed and a strikeout.
- Fred Field earned the victory for the Majors. Jackson Hood claimed the save, fanning three Eagles in a row to close the game.
- Evan Scott hit 2-for-2 with two walks, three RBIs, and a home run. Mason Morgan and David Abbadessa each swung 2-for-4 with a double.
