Eagles fall to Majors in season opener

JACKSON, MISS. – Baseball kicked off its 2025 campaign Friday down south. They faced off with the Millsaps Majors as they started a three-game series. The Majors (2-0) offense got the best of the Eagles (1-0) in a 10-4 defeat.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- An early error from Edgewood College plated two runs for Millsaps in the first. A home run to left field for the hosts made it 3-0 after three innings. The Majors took advantage of walks to load the bases with one out. Another walk sent in a run, before a pair of singles tallied three RBIs to make it 7-0 after four.

- Jacob Carney put the Eagles on the board with a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth. A double to left field and a sacrifice fly to left in the eighth pushed the Millsaps lead to 10-1.

- Edgewood College took advantage of loaded bases with one out in the top of the ninth. A Ryan Harris single through the left side punched in a run, before Colby Davis grounded out to third to send another runner home. A passed ball scored Dominic Lee to leave it 10-4, but a strikeout swinging would end the rally.

- Nick Tarantino shined as the winning pitcher. He threw six innings, striking out nine and allowing only three hits and a run.

- Seven Majors earned hits. Gray Berry hit 2-for-5 with three RBIs, a double, and a home run.

- Kyle Prindle and Harris each tallied a pair of hits. Harris added on an RBI.

- Ryan Mixey pitched three innings, allowing one earned run and striking out two in the start.
