Eagles fall to Falcons in overtime

MEQUON, WIS. – Men's Basketball flew north to kick off February NACC action. They faced off with the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons. The two squads were evenly matched through two halves, but the Falcons (11-9, 9-5 NACC) finished strong in overtime for an 87-82 victory over the Eagles (4-16, 3-10 NACC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College had control early as they made their first three three-pointers for a 17-12 lead at 14:59. Concordia Wisconsin took advantage of turnovers to put together a 10-1 rally for a 22-18 edge at 10:47.
 
- A pair of threes pushed the Eagles back ahead 22-22 with 9:15 remaining. The squads matched blow for blow down the stretch, neither leading by more than a possession before heading to the locker room with the Falcons up 37-36.
 
- After the two teams wrestled back and forth over single score leads in the opening minutes of the second half, Concordia Wisconsin struck first. A 10-2 rally pushed them ahead 57-49 with 11:20 remaining in regulation.
 
- Down 65-58 with 8:08 left, a pair of threes and a layup off a turnover evened the game 67-67 with a 9-2 run at 5:54. The defenses locked the offenses down, with a Matt Kirk layup tying the game at 73-73 with 1:10 left. The Falcons had the final possession in regulation but were unable to convert as the teams went off to overtime.
 
- While a Trent Tousana three gave Edgewood College their first lead in overtime 80-79 with 1:51 remaining, Concordia Wisconsin pulled away as the seconds ticked away. They finished off the match on an 8-2 run to claim a home victory.
 
- The Falcons made the most of points off turnovers, outscoring the Eagles 21-to-6. They also commanded the paint with a 48-to-36 advantage in points.
 
- Logan Landers played a key role in the victory. He scored 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double.
 
- Casey Verhagen tallied 17 points and five assists.
 
- Four from Edgewood College scored in double-digits. Danny Mulcare led the way with 16 points and added three blocks.
 
- Drew Houtakker posted nine points, eight assists, 10 rebounds, three blocks, and three steals.
 
- Payton Bowser recorded 12 points in 14 minutes of play.
 
- Hunter Hardyman earned 11 points and eight rebounds. Kirk rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Mulcare's 16 points and four made three-pointers are both personal bests this season.
 
- Houtakker's eight assists are a career best. His .570 field goal percentage is second in the NACC as a whole.
 
- Bowser's 12 points and four made three-pointers are also new high watermarks.
 
- The 13 three-pointers made is tied for fourth on the program's single game recorded books.
 
UP NEXT
Edgewood College will return to the Todd Wehr Edgedome as they enter the home stretch of their NACC slate. They'll take on the Benedictine Eagles for MAISL Night on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
