Eagles open conference play with Home Victory over Cougars

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood University women's basketball team locked down their first conference victory of the season with an 80-57 final over Concordia University Chicago. The Eagles opened the contest with 11 unanswered points on Wednesday evening. The hot start helped Edgewood University to their best shooting and highest scoring contest of the season. Laci Lindsey, Grace Vesperman, and Sophia Guerrero finished the night in double-digit scoring figures.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University (3-3, 1-0 NACC) opened conference action with 11-straight points on Wednesday evening. Three-point makes from Lindsey and Vesperman helped lift the Eagles an early 11-0 advantage with 6:51 on the clock. Six different Eagles scored in the first quarter for the Eagles, as they took a critical 30-10 advantage.

- Concordia University Chicago (1-6, 0-1 NACC) outscored Edgewood University 19-16 in the second quarter. The Cougars shot a game-high 50 percent (5-for-10) from the floor in the second quarter. Despite responding to the Eagles hot start, Concordia Chicago barely chipped away at the Eagles lead. Edgewood University took a 46-29 lead into halftime.

- The Eagles continued to roll after the break, scoring 19 points and holding the Cougars to just 11 points. Three point makes from Lindsey, Londyn Holewinski, and Ava Berg highlighted the third quarter for the Eagles.

- Edgewood University took their largest lead of 29 points with 9:16 on the clock in the fourth quarter thanks to a free-throw make from Vesperman. The Cougars held pace with the Eagles in the final quarter, but it wasn't enough to take away the victory.

TOP PERFORMERS
- Vesperman couldn't miss on Wednesday evening, scoring a career-best 16 points and only missing one free throw in the conference opener. Vesperman went 5-for-5 from the floor and 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. The junior dished out four assists and added two blocks.

- Laci Lindsey posted a career-best 18 points to lead the Eagles. Lindsey went 6-for-9 from the floor and 4-for-5 from the charity stripe.

- Sophia Guerrero posted 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Eagles.

- Kate Gunderson pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and scored nine points.

THE OPPOSITION
- Naveya Jackson led the Cougars with 23 points. Jackson went 10-for-12 from the charity stripe.

- Ai Yonemura posted 14 points, pulled down five rebounds, and dished out four assists.

- Grace King added 13 points for Concordia Chicago.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood University shot a season-best 42.9 percent (24-for-56) from the floor and 40 percent (10-for-25) from three-point range on Wednesday.

- 12 different Eagles scored in the conference victory.
