Edgewood University outpaces Benedictine with electric three-point shooting

MADISON, WIS. – Men's Basketball concluded the 2025 home slate at the Todd Wehr Edgedome in impressive fashion Wednesday. They took on the Benedictine Eagles in a NACC showdown. Edgewood University (1-7, 1-3 NACC) shot the lights out from beyond the arc to earn a 95-85 victory over Benedictine (2-7, 1-3 NACC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Benedictine controlled the early portion of the affair, sinking threes to propel a 10-3 burst and claim a 18-10 edge at 13:15. Edgewood University replied in kind, a 10-2 answer evening things 20-20 at 10:26.
 
- Edgewood University controlled the second ten minutes, three pointers continuing to pour down as they went on a 10-2 run to hold a 33-25 edge at 5:40. Four unanswered, including a late foul, sent Edgewood University to the locker room ahead 49-39.
 
- A dunk from Logan Steffensmeier followed by a three-pointer from Benedictine in the first minute of the second half set the tone for a frenetic frame. Edgewood University kept up with Benedictine's tempo, building up to a 68-53 lead at 12:23. Benedictine mounted a furious comeback in the next 6:03, outscoring Edgewood University 22-5 to close within two and force a timeout.
 
- Edgewood University would do enough to keep Benedictine at arm's length, the visitors never overtaking the hosts. Edgewood University found their opportunities again from three-point land for a 12-5 stretch to lead 87-78 with 3:51 remaining. Benedictine ran out of gas, finding themselves unable to overtake Edgewood University as they claimed their first NACC victory of the season.
   
- Edgewood University shot 71.4 (15-of-21) from beyond the arc, with three players making three threes.
 
- The bench stepped up in a big way for Edgewood University as they held a 43-to-17 advantage in bench points.
 
- Five players scored in double-digits for Edgewood University. Will Gretzinger paced the group with 17 points, shooting 7-of-8 from the field and 3-of-3 from three-point land.
 

 
- Kaleb Walter and Payton Bowser both scored in double-digits from the bench with 15 and 11 points respectively.
 
- Trent Tousana finished with 10 points and six assists.
 
- Hunter Hardyman earned 12 points, a block, and a steal.
 
- Connor Glasgow recorded the lone double-double of the evening. He tallied 28 points and 11 rebounds.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The .714 (15-of-21) shooting from beyond the arc matched the program record, set against Fontbonne (10-of-14) in the 2012-13 season.
 
- The 15 three-pointers made is tied for second most in program history, last set against Concordia Wisconsin (March 3, 2021).
 
- The 95 points scored is the program's most since Lakeland (December 2, 2023), where they scored 99 points in triple overtime.
 
- The .714 three-point shooting is the best percentage in any NACC game this season.
 
- Walter's 15 points is a career best, as were Gretzinger's 17.

Edgewood University will head to Wisconsin Dells, Wis. on Sunday for a neutral site matchup. They will take on Carthage at Just a Game Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
