MEQUON, Wis. – The Edgewood University women's basketball team headed to Concordia University Wisconsin on Monday looking to remain undefeated in conference play. The Eagles did just that, defeating the Falcons 56-50. A fourth quarter surge gave Edgewood University their fourth conference victory on Monday evening, as the Eagles outscored the Falcons 20-6 in the final 10 minutes. Taylor Wollin and Laci Lindsey scored in double-digits on Monday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University (5-4, 4-0 NACC) went into the fourth quarter with an eight-point deficit. The Eagles were determined to fight back after a tough third quarter, that saw Concordia University Wisconsin (2-6, 3-2 NACC) take back the lead with 20 points. It was a team effort in the fourth quarter from the Eagles, as six different players contributed to the Eagles 20 points.
- A three point make from Lindsey with 6:15 remaining on the clock reduced the Falcons lead to just one point (48-47). The Eagles went 7-for-12 from the charity stripe in the final six minutes. The Eagles free throw shooting, combined with crucial makes from Grace Vesperman and Ava Berg gave the Eagles the conference victory.
- It was all Concordia Wisconsin in the opening minutes on Monday evening, as the Falcons opened the first eight minutes with a 10-2 advantage. The Eagles would score nine points in the final two minutes of the first quarter, led by five points from McKenna Reilly to trail 15-11.
- The Eagles took their first lead of the contest with 8:40 on the clock in the second quarter. A three-point make from Grace Vesperman gave Edgewood University a 16-15 advantage. The Eagles and Falcons played tough into halftime, with Edgewood University barely outscoring Concordia Wisconsin 10-9 in the final eight minutes of the second quarter. The Eagles took a 26-24 lead into halftime.
- The Edgewood University defense was key in the final quarter on Monday, as they held the Falcons to just 13.33 percent (2-for-15) from the floor. In contrast, the Eagles posted a game-best 55.56 percent (5-for-9) shooting through the final 10 minutes.
- The Eagles led the Falcons 40-31 in rebounding on Monday evening. All nine Eagles competing pulled down a rebound.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Wollin posted 16 points, going 5-for-7 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. The sophomore pulled down five rebounds and collected two steals.
- Lindsey added 13 points, going 2-for-4 from beyond the arc.
- Gunderson posted nine points and pulled down six rebounds in the victory.
- Ella Hamacher led the Eagles in rebounds, pulling down seven boards.
- Grace Vesperman dished out three assists for the Eagles.
THE OPPOSITION
- Kristin Wentling posted 14 points for the Falcons.
- Andrea Butterbrodt pulled down a team-best nine rebounds and added eight points.
- Amya Pluess recorded six steals for Concordia Wisconsin.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood University is one of four teams (MSOE, Wisconsin Lutheran, St. Norbert) who remain undefeated in conference action.
- For the second season under head coach Kole Vivian the Eagles have opened conference play with three-straight wins. The Eagles currently own a 4-0 conference mark due to a canceled season from Alverno.
