MADISON, Wis. – Edgewood University women's basketball closed out their home slate for the 2025 season with non-conference UW-River Falls on Wednesday evening. The Eagles fell to the Falcons 70-41. UW-River Falls posted 20 points or more in two quarters on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-River Falls (6-3) opened the non-conference battle with a 14-3 run on Wednesday. A three point make from Ava Berg in the final two minutes, coupled with two free throw makes from Kate Gunderson gave the Eagles just nine points in the first quarter. After 10 minutes, the Falcons led the Eagles 17-9.
- Edgewood University (4-4) posted a game-best 15 points in the second quarter, shooting 37.5 percent (6-for-16) from the floor before halftime. Grace Vesperman posted all seven of her points in the second quarter to help the Eagles offense. Despite a game-best effort before halftime, the Eagles trailed the Falcons 38-24.
- The third quarter proved a defensive battle, as the Eagles held the Falcons to just 12 points after the break. Edgewood University only managed eight points and trailed UW-River Falls 50-32 going into the final 10 minutes.
- Kylee Lonigro opened the final quarter with a jumper in the first minute for Edgewood University, but it wasn't enough to spark an Eagle comeback. The Falcons managed 20 points in the final 10 minutes to solidify the victory.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Berg, Vesperman, and Ella Hamacher each scored seven points for the Eagles on Wednesday.
- Taylor Wollin pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and added six points.
- Gunderson dished out a game-best four assists.
- Sophia Guerrero posted three steals.
THE OPPOSITION
- Savannah Leopold led the Falcons with 10 points, shooting 4-for-7 from the floor.
- Taylor Clarey and Zoe Buchan both added nine points for UW-River Falls.
- Olivia Boily pulled down a team-best six rebounds on Wednesday night.
- Annamarie Aue posted seven points, pulled down three rebounds and posted three blocks.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles and Falcons last met during the 1996-97 season. UW-River Falls has won all three contests in history.
