MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood University women's basketball team opened the 2025-26 season in the Todd Wehr Edgedome on Wednesday. The Eagles battled with the Ripon College Red Hawks, falling 79-40.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University (0-1) hung tough with Ripon College (3-0) through the first 10 minutes on Wednesday evening. The Eagles led 5-2 early, thanks to a three-point make from Ava Berg. The Red Hawks responded with six-straight points to lead 8-5 through four minutes of action. Through 10 minutes, Ripon led 19-12.
- The Eagles struggled in the second quarter, only scoring seven points. Ripon continued to rack up points, scoring 19 before halftime to lead 38-19 into the break.
- The Red Hawks poured on the scoring out of halftime, scoring 27 points thanks to 64.71 percent shooting from the floor. Ripon was perfect from three-point range in the third quarter, knocking down four three pointers.
- Edgewood University shot a game-best 41.18 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to catch up with the Red Hawks. McKenna Reilly netted all seven of her points in the final 47 seconds.
- Taylor Wollin netted a team-best 11 points. She added four rebounds and four steals on the evening. Laci Lindsey and Reilly collected seven points each for the Eagles.
- Sophia Guerrero posted a career-best six blocks for Edgewood University.
THE OPPOSITION
- Natalie Rauwolf led the Ripon attack with 18 points on 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc.
- Karsyn Nelson and Halle Van Horn also finished in double-digit figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
- Sophie Schlieve pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, six on the offensive side of the ball.
- Laney Havlovitz dished out seven assists.
