VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood University men's soccer team clinched back-to-back NACC Regular Season Championships and the No. 1 seed in the NACC Tournament with a 6-0 win over Benedictine University. Prior to the match, the Eagles celebrated the careers of 11 seniors. Five different players scored for Edgewood University in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Connor Gage led the Edgewood University (13-1-2, 11-0-0 NACC) attack on Saturday, scoring twice. Gage's first goal came in the 26th minute, assisted by Liam Moreira. The sophomore scored just three minutes later to put Edgewood University up 4-0 through just 29 minutes.
- Gabe Voung got Edgewood University on the board in the 19th minute. Voung's sixth goal of the season was assisted by Cristian Torres-Gale.
- Ryan Hardy netted his third goal of the season, assisted by Voung just four minutes later.
- Edgewood University outshot Benedictine University (5-8-3, 4-5-2 NACC) 16-3 in the first 45 minutes.
- Jack Knight netted the fifth goal of the afternoon in the 53rd minute. Voung added his second assist of the afternoon on Knight's goal.
- Torres-Gale found the back of the net for the sixth and final goal with just four minutes remaining on the clock.
- Benedictine University did not put a shot on goal on the afternoon.
- Maverick Van Laanen earned the start in net for Edgewood University. Jordan Rolon and Abraham Tiburcio split time in net for Benedictine, combining for 12 saves.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood University have clinched the regular season conference crown for the second-straight season. The title is their second in the NACC era.
- The Edgewood University now owns 10 shutouts on the season, eight coming in conference action. The Eagles have not allowed a goal in conference play since Wednesday, October 8.
- Senior Day celebrated the achievements and accomplishments of seniors Jack Knight, Maverick Van Laanen, Brooks Luttinen, Brandon Kaup, Stefan Soldat, Gabe Voung, Ian Plecha, Connor Thompson, Jovan Dennison, Conor Bruce, and Spencer Hubbard.
