MADISON- The Edgewood College Eagles men's basketball squad kicked off 2025 at the Todd Wehr Edgedome Saturday. They faced off with the Dominican Stars in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action. The Eagles (3-10, 2-4 NACC) soared above the Stars (3-9, 0-5), snapping a six-game losing streak with a 79-66 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- An early 5-0 Dominican lead at 19:13 had the visitors in the driver's seat early on. Edgewood College struggled to break through as the Stars led by as much as nine and never trailed in the first 14:44 of play.
- Down 29-24, the Eagles defense clamped down on Dominican as the offense came alive. A 12-2 run over 4:30 saw Edgewood College flip the script with a 36-31 lead. The Stars would chip away at the lead, the hosts leading 36-34 at half.
- After the two teams jockeyed for position in the first five minutes of the second frame, the Eagles hit their stride. Up 42-38 at the 13:28 mark, eight points in a row over the next 1:41 pushed Edgewood College ahead by 12. Dominican had no response to smothering defense and efficient offense, the Eagles leading by as much as 16 down the stretch for a victory to kick off 2025.
- Edgewood College had a 39-to-34 advantage in rebounds. They also outshot the Stars 45.6-to-37.7 percent from the floor.
- Five Eagles contributed four or more rebounds.

Drew Houtakker anchored the offense, pacing all scorers with 18 points.

Hunter Hardyman continued to play well, earning 11 points, a block, and a steal.

Danny Mulcare earned 10 points, three steals, and a block.

AC Strok led all Edgewood College players with six rebounds. He also grabbed a pair of steals.

Payton Bowser played a key role on offense and defense with three assists and three blocks.
- Andrew Bennett led Dominican with 13 points. Terrell Taylor earned 11 points, 4 assists, and two blocks.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Mulcare's three steals were a personal best.
- Bowser's three blocks and three assists were new highs for the junior.
- Houtakker is shooting .585 (69-of-118) percent from the floor for the season. He leads the NACC in the category.
- The Eagles are 30-9 all-time versus the Stars.
