Eagles outlast Cougars in River Forest

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Three-point shooting in the second quarter and consistent defense lifted the Edgewood College women's basketball team past Concordia Chicago on Wednesday evening. The Eagles 70-61 victory goes down as their fifth conference victory. Four Eagles scored in double-digits on Wednesday, led by Vivian Guerrero.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Concordia University Chicago (1-14, 0-8 NACC) controlled the first quarter by holding Edgewood College (9-7, 5-2 NACC) to just 20 percent (3-for-15) shooting from the floor in the opening 10 minutes. The Cougars recorded five three-point makes in the first quarter to lead the Eagles 17-8.

- The Eagles quickly responded, scoring 19 points in the second quarter and holding the Cougars to their lowest shooting of the game, 23 percent (3-for-13). A 12-0 run to end the second quarter gave Edgewood College a 27-26 lead going into halftime.

- Edgewood College continued to shoot the ball well after halftime, recording 16 points in the third quarter and increasing their lead to six points (43-37) going into the final quarter.

- Six different Eagles combined for 27 points in the fourth quarter. The Cougars battled back with the Eagles, scoring 24 points. Edgewood College recorded five of their seven total steals in the final quarter, proving timely to hold off the Cougars.

- Vivian Guerrero did a bit of everything for the Eagles on Wednesday. The senior recorded an 18 point, 11 rebound double-double. Guerrero added a whopping six blocks and five assists.

- Kallie Norby, Kenzie Senffner, and Jayden Nortier joined Guerrero in double-digit scoring, collecting 14, 11, and 10 points, respectively.

- On the evening the Eagles pulled down 39 rebounds, 10 of which came on the offensive side of the ball. Jordan Carlquist collected eight rebounds, while Ava Berg pulled down six of her own.

THE OPPOSITION
- Mikalah Ellis posted a game-high 28 points for the Cougars.

- Khaliah Reid and Alisyn MacGregor both scored in double-digits, recording 17 and 11 points, respectively.

- MacGregor pulled down a team-best nine rebounds.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Vivian Guerrero collected a career-best six blocks in River Forest on Wednesday.

- Edgewood College now leads the all-time series versus Concordia Chicago 17-7.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will travel to Alverno College on Saturday. Action is set for 1:00 p.m. from Milwaukee.
