CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Opening a season with three-straight road matches is never easy, but the Edgewood College women's soccer team wasn't bothered, taking down Coe College 2-1 for their first win of the season. The Eagles trailed by one goal early, but back-to-back goals from Greta Blau lifted them past the Kohawks on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Coe College (0-2-0) opened scoring in the 27th minute, as Eliana Manning gave the Kohawks a 1-0 lead. The advantage would stick through the end of the first half, despite Edgewood College (1-0-1) taking a whopping 10 shots and dominating the attack in the first 45 minutes of action.
- Blau first found the back of the net in the 62nd minute, to tie the game a one a piece.
- The Eagles weren't satisfied with the draw, as Blau scored the winning goal in the 75th minute, assisted by Rylee Brotz.
- Edgewood College outshot Coe 15-4 on the evening, with 10 shots on target.
- Blau was busy, taking five shots on the evening, while Brotz added five of her own.
- Emma Swenson locked down the Eagles net, making two saves across 90 minutes.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The victory goes down as the first over Coe all-time. The Eagles and Kohawks first met in 2023, concluding in a 1-1 draw.
