Eagles shutout Regents for third-straight NACC victory

VERONA, Wis. The high scoring Edgewood College men's soccer team earned their sixth-straight victory and third-straight conference win on Wednesday evening. Under the lights of Edgewood College Field, the Eagles shutout Rockford University 4-0. The Eagles scored twice in both halves and continued to play dynamic soccer that leads the NACC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (7-1-1, 3-0-0 NACC) took a few minutes to settle in against Rockford University (1-7-0, 1-2-0 NACC) on Wednesday evening, scoring their first goal in the 21st minute. Cristian Torres-Gale netted his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Connor Gage.

- Gage found his spark in the 34th minute, beating out defenders to take the Eagles up 2-0.

- It was Miguel Konde Gwo who scored first after halftime. The senior who led the team on the evening with seven shots, six on goal, finally making his mark. The Eagles third goal, assisted by Riley Stevens.

- Brooks Luttinen scored his first goal in an Eagle uniform. The juniors goal coming off a brilliant forward pass from defender Brandon Hough in the 87th minute.

- The Eagles defense limited the attack of the Regents to just two shots, none on goal.

- Juan Sarmiento kept the contest close for Rockford, making a whopping 13 saves in net.

- Maverick Van Laanen made the start in net for the Eagles. Griffin Meisterhiem came on in relief, playing 18 minutes in goal.  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles 7-1-1 start to the season is the best since the 2000 season, when the Eagles went 8-1-0, 6-0-0 LMC to open the season.

- Edgewood College opens their NACC campaign with a 3-0-0 record, their best start to conference since the 2009 season.

- Six-straight wins is the second-best streak in program history. In 2005, 1999 and 1996, the Eagles won seven-straight contest to win the LMC Tournament Championship. Current head coach Tim Bruner was a member of the 1999 team.

- 117 points and 44 goals from the Edgewood College men's soccer team in 2024 both rank ninth best in program history.

- Gage ranks seventh in points (33) in a season and 10th in goals (13) in a single season history.

- Edgewood College leads the all-time series versus Rockford 16-6. The Eagles snapped a four-game skid against the Regents.

- Edgewood College will host UW-Whitewater in a non-conference battle. Action is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. from Edgewood College Field at Reddan Park.
