MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team continues to defy the odds in 2024 with their high-powered offense and consistent defense. Saturday was no exception, as they defeated MSOE for the first time since the 2011 season. The Eagles took down the Raiders 3-1 on Saturday afternoon on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Edgewood College (6-1-1, 2-0-0 NACC) attack was patient and impactful on Saturday afternoon, taking six shots and putting all six on goal through 90 minutes of play in Milwaukee. The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead in the 19th minute, as Connor Gage netted his 11th goal of the season.
- Gage continued to roll, giving the Eagles a 2-0 advantage with a goal in the 30th minute.
- Going into halftime, Edgewood College led MSOE (1-2-4, 0-1-0 NACC) in shots four to one. - The Eagles defense would only allow one shot from the Raiders until the 84th minute.
- Cristian Torres-Gale netted the third and final goal from the Eagles just four minutes into the second half.
- Ditar Useni found the back of the net for the Radiers in the 61st minute. His goal assisted by Nico Picha.
- Maverick Van Laanen earned the victory in net for the Eagles, making one save.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College and MSOE are now tied in the all-time series 23-23. The Eagles win snaps a 14-game win streak for the Raiders.
- Edgewood College opens their NACC campaign with a 2-0-0 record, their best start to conference since the 2014 season.
- The Eagles 6-1-1 start to the season is the best since the 2000 season, when the Eagles went 8-1-0, 6-0-0 LMC to open the season.
- Gage is on track to run through the Edgewood College record book in 2024. He currently owns 12 goals on the season, which is tied for 10th best in the record books. He is tied with head coach Tim Bruner who accomplished 12 goals in both the 1999 and 1998 season, as well as Scott Mejia (1994). Gage's 30 points is tied with Miguel Konde Gwo (2023) for 10th best in program history.
