Second half goals lift Eagles past Scarlet Hawks in NACC opener

CHICAGO, Ill. In a battle between regionally ranked NACC foes, the Edgewood College men's soccer team came out on top on Wednesday evening. The Eagles, ranked seventh by the United Soccer Coaches Association, defeated the sixth ranked Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks 4-1. It was all second-half scoring that gave the Eagles their fourth-straight win.  

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (5-1-1, 1-0-0 NACC) and Illinois Tech (4-1-1, 0-1-0 NACC) went into halftime with a blank scoreboard. The Eagles managed to lead the half with eight shots, two of which were on goal.

- The Scarlet Hawks struck first, scoring in the 50th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

- Edgewood College responded, scoring on a header from Jack Knight, assisted by Connor Gage to tie the contest a one a piece.

- Miguel Konde Gwo broke the contest open with a goal in the 60th minute.

- From there the Eagles attack showed their strength. Gage scored goals three and four, the first assisted by Brandon Kaup for the 4-1 final.

- Maverick Van Laanen made two saves in net for the Eagles

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College leads the all-time series vs the Scarlet Hawks 4-2. The Eagles have won the last two meetings.

- For the second-straight season, the Eagles open conference play with a victory. Last season, the Eagles defeated Illinois Tech 2-1 to open NACC play.

- The Eagles 5-1-1 start to the season is the best since 2017, when they opened with a 5-1-0 record.
