VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team proved they can win anywhere, taking down Central College 3-2 in the home opener on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles, who opened their season with three-straight road games, continued their winning ways at home. Three Eagles scored in the non-conference battle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first half, Central College (3-2-0) broke through in the 50th minute with a goal from Grace Coates.
- Edgewood College (3-0-1) quickly responded, as Megan Hines found the back of the net for the first time in an Eagle uniform. Her goal was assisted by Rylee Brotz and Greta Blau.
- Blau got in on the scoring action just seven minutes later, as she scored to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
- Emma Miller put the exclamation point on the game for Edgewood College, scoring her first collegiate goal in the 72nd minute after a flurry of action from the Eagles attack.
- Amber Santana scored the second goal for the Dutch in the 83rd minute, but it was too little too late.
- Despite being outshot by Central 26-11 on the afternoon, the Eagles attack was powerful and calculated.
- Emma Swenson earned the start in goal for the Eagles, making a career-best eight saves to keep the Eagles in the contest in the first half. Hailey Corcoran replaced Swenson at halftime, making five saves.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College is off to their best start since the 2011 season, when they opened with a 4-0-0 record.
- The meeting was the first between Central and Edgewood College all-time.
