MOUNT VERNON, IOWA – The Edgewood College Eagles women's tennis squad put a bow on an impressive opening weekend Sunday. They squared off with the Buena Vista Beavers. The Eagles (3-0) dominated in a 7-0 sweep against the Beavers (0-3).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College set the tone for the match in doubles.
Marissa Light and
Evelyn Taylor teamed up in top billing for a clean 6-0 sweep, while
Christina Ekkela and
Emma Dillon paired up for a 6-0 margin in third doubles to clinch the doubles point.

Hattie Plenty and
Madelyn Connaughty posted an impressive 6-2 finish in no. 2 doubles.
- Light continued to shine in singles, taking home a 6-3, 6-0 win in no. 1 singles. Ekkela put together a strong 6-1, 6-2 victory in second billing.

Cassie Henderson would clinch the match for the Eagles with a 6-1, 6-2 tally in no. 3 singles.

Sarah Emory posted a 6-1, 6-0 final in no. 5 singles. Dillon in sixth singles and Plenty in fourth billing each recorded 6-0, 6-0 triumphs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The 3-0 start to 2024-25 is Edgewood College's best start to a season since 2020-21.
- The match was the first time the two schools have met in women's tennis.
UP NEXT
The Eagles will start their Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) slate next Saturday. They will take on the Marian Sabres in Fond du Lac, Wis. with first serve to be announced. Edgewood College is 18-0 all-time against the Sabres.
