VERONA, Wis. – A thrilling come behind victory brought life to Edgewood College Field at Reddan Park on Saturday afternoon, as Edgewood College defeated St. Scholastica 5-2 in their home opener. A second half surge was all the Eagles needed to earn win number one on the season. Connor Gage lit up the pitch, scoring four goals and tying the program record for goals scored in a game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (1-1-0) went into halftime down 2-1 to St. Scholastica (0-1-0). Gage turned on the jets and led the Eagles to a victory, scoring three goals in 19 minutes to take a 4-2 advantage.
- Gage earned the first hat trick of his freshman campaign in the 58th minute. His fourth goal of the afternoon came in the 67th minute and was assisted by Joshua Kerr.
- Stephen Kaster put the exclamation point on the win, scoring the fifth and final goal in the 78th minute. Kaster's goal was the first of his career.
- Gage opened the scoring for Edgewood College in the 35th minute, in response to a goal from the Saints.
- Parker Chastey scored both goals for St. Scholastica in the first half of action.
- The Saints went silent in the second half, only taking nine shots total on the afternoon.
- Maverick Van Laanen recorded two saves in net for the Eagles.
- 11 different Eagles recorded a shot on the afternoon, led by Gage with nine shots.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Gage ties Nate Brawner (October 17, 1995) and Kevin Fisher (September 17, 2006) for the program record for goals scored in a game.
- The Eagles win their home opener for the second-straight season under head coach Tim Bruner. In 2023, the Eagles defeated Lawrence 2-0.
