Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Mesa records equalizer in draw to Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill.Lauren Mesa scored her first collegiate goal in the 62nd minute for the Edgewood College women's soccer team as they earned a season opening 1-1 draw with Monmouth College. In the Eagles non-conference battle, both goals came in the second half of action.  

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (0-0-1) was aggressive offensively from the start, taking 13 shots in the first half of action. Despite controlling action for much of the first 45 minutes, the Eagles were unable to find the back of the net. Both teams went into halftime scoreless.  

- Monmouth (0-0-1) struck first, scoring in the 59th minute. Allison Griffin found the back of the net, assisted by Danielle Beach.  

- The Eagles quickly responded, with a goal from Mesa in the 62nd minute to equalize the score. Rylee Brotz assisted on the goal.

- On the afternoon Edgewood College outshot Monmouth 27-3, putting 16 shots on goal. Greta Blau recorded seven shots on goal to lead the Eagles.

- The duo of Emma Swenson and Hailey Corcoran held down the Eagles defense, only allowing one goal. Each goalkeeper recorded one save in 45 minutes in net.  

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will continue non-conference road action at Coe College on Wednesday, September 4. Action is set for 7:00 p.m. from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
