EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team opened their 2024 season at UW-Eau Claire on Friday afternoon. The Eagles stayed close with the No. 16 ranked Blugolds, as they fell 1-0 in the non-conference affair.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (1-0-0) scored the only goal of the afternoon, their first of the 2024 season six minutes into the contest. Carson Kowalski found the back of the net for the Blugold, assisted by Nathan Donovan and Jacob Sampson.
- Edgewood College (0-1-0) held tough through the first 45 minutes, only allowing eight total shots from the ranked opposition and taking four of their own.
- Maverick Van Laanen backed the Eagles defense with seven saves on the afternoon. The junior continued to be a mainstay in net in his second season in an Eagle uniform.
- Jack Knight, Connor Gage, Brian Vazquez Trejo, and Brandon Kaup each put a shot on goal for Edgewood College on Friday.
- UW-Eau Claire pushed the pace in the second half, outshooting the Eagles 16-7 on the afternoon.
